Beware of Pride

“Pride is pleasure arising from a man's thinking too highly of himself.” - Baruch Spinoza

We all do need to have a reasonable amount of pride in order to have a good self esteem. However, having too much pride can cause us to be full of ourselves, self-centred and become arrogant.

"Who never admits wrong loves pride more than facts. He is lifeless who is faultless."

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." - Proverbs 11:2

The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV) -

"Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for 'God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.'"

A healthy dose of pride does have its value because it fuels pursuits. It pushes us to achieve academic, job-related or personal goals. However, don't allow pride to ruin you.

"Glory is a poison that can only be taken in small doses."

“Glory ought to be the consequence, not the motive of our actions”

The fine line is between confidence and arrogance. What do you think?

Competence Starts with feeling competent

"Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are." - Forbes

It is important to have good self-esteem. Good self-esteem gives you the courage to try new things and the power to believe in yourself. It lets you respect yourself, even when you make mistakes. If you think you're important, you'll be less likely to follow the crowd who might be doing something dumb or dangerous. You value your safety, your feelings, your health - your whole self!

"No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." - Eleanor Roosevelt

A Man and A Woman

"When a man gets up to speak, people listen, then look. When a woman gets up, people look; then, if they like what they see, they listen."

A man alone is not a unit of society - nor a woman alone. It requires two. Reason alone, or feeling alone, is not enough for important decisions. It requires both.

A man's best fortune, or his worst, is his wife. Ditto for the wife's husband.

The bible in Genesis 2:23-24 tell us this:
"And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
