Why is Language Important?

“Language is the dress of thought.” - Samuel Johnson

"A different language is a different vision of life." - Federico Fellini

“Change your language and you change your thoughts.” - Karl Albrecht

“Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we can think about.” - Benjamin Lee Whorf

"It's not what you tell them…it's what they hear." - Red Auerbach

"Language is the roadmap of a culture. It tells you where its people came from and where they are going." - Rita Mae Brown

How many languages do you speak?

Sam,
It's often more of what you communicate, not so much the language involved. We can express our ideas and desires with body language, eye contact, intensity and so on; whereas the other person can extract our meaning even if there is a language constraint. Their perception is often what is most important. Just thinking...

I like your blog.

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for sharing your valuable views. Indeed, what we communicate is even more important.

However, if we could speak or understand other languages such as Mandarin, French, Russian, etc., we would be able to reach out to many more people. Now I could only visit English websites. Although, there are online translator like Google but it is not accurate!
