Is making mistakes really bad?

Wrong concept about mistakes
In school, at home or at work we are told that it is wrong to make mistakes. We get scolded or punished for any mistakes made and are taught that failures are shameful things. This could be the reason why many people give up on their goals. They are not prepared for the mistakes and failures they will face on their way to what they want.

“The greatest mistake we make is living in constant fear that we will make one.” - John Maxwell

Mistakes are inevitable

The fact that the more challenging the goal we would like to achieve, the more frequent and difficult setbacks will be. The larger your ambitions, the more dependent you will be on your ability to overcome and learn from your mistakes.

“Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time.” - George Bernard Shaw

Learn from mistakes
You can only learn from a mistake after you admit you’ve made it. Every mistake is a lesson. As soon as you start blaming other people you won't learn any possible lesson.

“A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it, is committing another mistake.” - Confucius

"An error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to correct it." - O. A. Battista

Benefit of making mistakes

"Mistakes are stepping stones to success."

“Mistakes are the portals of discovery.” - James Joyce

"The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way." - Dale Carnegie

We learn more lessons when we make mistakes.

I learn a lesson when I sat on my glasses when I place it on my bed. That was indeed an expensive mistake. After that incident I would never place my glasses on my bed.

However, there are indeed some mistakes that are very painful and offer no chance to regret! So be very careful!

Have you learn a great deal from your mistakes?

Don't beat the traffic! - Be Careful

Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

Watch the man on the left walking, crossing the road where there is NO car. It is so obvious that the coast on the left is clear and safe to cross. Any person would see it as safe...however, only God knows!

Take nothing for granted, not even for a split second! Be grateful for every living minute.

Whether you're the pedestrian or one of the drivers, we can come across this situation on the road almost daily especially when someone is trying to beat the traffic lights.

Source: e-mail

Believe It or Not! The guy escaped alive!! according to the Snopes.

Remember, you are a role model. Your children learn by example, so you should always practice safe driving techniques around them, including wearing your safety belt, paying attention to the road, following traffic laws, and treating other drivers with respect.

Let's remember to appreciate and treasure each day, because we don't know how many we're going to be given.

Be the first to say Sorry

"An apology is the superglue of life. It can repair just about anything." - Lynn Johnston

Many find it hard to say sorry because they have to admit that they are wrong. However, apologising is essential and the only way to resolve issues.

Be the first to say Sorry. When you realize you've made a mistake, make amends immediately.

Don't be afraid to say "I am sorry." Remember to say sorry when you hurt somebody.

Say 'SORRY' at the right moment
. A Sorry at the right time can bridge many misunderstandings. If the other person is still angry, they might not be ready to hear it. Also take note that a mumbled apology may leave you worse off than before.

There are many ways to apologize. Here are some examples:

"I'm sorry I lost your Music CD."
"I'm sorry I hurt your feelings."
"I'm sorry I yelled at you."
"I'm sorry for all I put you through"
"I'm sorry I hurt you. What I did, I regret"

"Right actions in the future are the best apologies for bad actions in the past." - Tryon Edwards

What do you think? Do you have any tips on how to say sorry?

Dare to be different for good!

A lot of time we hear people say "Majority win" Let's take a look at some quotes left by wise men and see what they says.

“The minority is sometimes right; the majority always wrong.” - George Bernard Shaw

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain

“The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.” - Ralph W. Sockman

Take a look at this story:

Which one will you choose? What is your decision?
A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track. The train came, and you were just beside the track interchange. You could make the train change its course to the disused track and saved most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

Choice that majority make
Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, I thought the same way initially because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place? Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was.

Sacrifice the minority?
This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

Reasons to be different
The author of this story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.

If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one. "Remember that what's right isn't always popular... and what's popular isn't always right."

“If everybody's thinking alike, somebody isn't thinking.” - General George S. Patton

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. - Romans 12:17

Don't let evil forces dominate you!

Nowadays, there are more and more horrifying cases that we thought can only happen in movies. Recently, there was a reported case of a man having his body chopped up into 11 pieces and stuffed into five rubbish bags before being put into the refrigerator. Click here for more details.

Isn't that horrible? You might ask. What's wrong with this people? Well, indeed, it is difficult to comprehend. Anyway, the following quotes are very true:

"Anger is one letter short of danger."

"Great anger is more destructive than the sword."

Well, in the moment of anger, many people can become totally insane and such unbecoming actions can happen.

Let's take a look at this story:

A man came out of his home to admire his new car. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the car.

The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital. Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands.

When the boy woke up from the surgery and saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, "Daddy, I'm sorry about your car." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?" The father went home and committed suicide.

Please take note that the above story has been classified as Urban Legend

Think about this story the next time you see someone spill milk at a dinner table or steps on your feet and you wish to take revenge. Think first before you lose your patience with someone you love. Cars can be repaired. Broken bones and hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance.

People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever. Pause and ponder. Think before you act. Be patient. Understand and love.

"Every time you get angry, you poison your own system." - Alfred Montapert

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Anger is a momentary madness, so control your passion or it will control you." - Horace

"If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow." - Chinese Proverb

Have you personally witness any good friend of yours that had loses their mind when they lost their cool? Do share any stories that you think is beneficial.

Experience or Failure? You determine!

Sometimes it is alright to make the same mistake more than once. Isn't that's how we learn to walk and to ride a bicycle?

You may make mistakes, but you are not a failure until you start blaming someone else. Mistakes show us what we need to learn. Mistakes are a great educator when one is honest enough to admit them and willing to learn from them.
