How to Acquire Wisdom?

Source of All Knowledge - QA Exchange

Although many of us know that there is Wisdom in Asking Questions, we still at times do not ask questions when we do not understand. Why? The following excerpt could be one of the reasons:

"Researchers have found that a fascinating change takes place in schoolchildren. When they begin their studies, strong and weak students show an equal willingness to ask questions when they do not understand. However, as they get older and begin to understand their relative position in the class, students, especially weaker students, become reluctant to ask questions and reveal what they do not know." - Source: 100 Simple Secrets of Successful People by David Niven

“If there is something to gain and nothing to lose by asking, by all means ask!” - W. Clement Stone

The following are typical problems that some of us are facing:

• There are just too many blogs or websites to search through; thus it is difficult to find solutions or answers
• One needs to spent a lot of time to sift through thread of messages; yet still could not find the solution
• One may not or don't know how to post questions; thus have to live with the problems unsolved
• One could not find or could have posted to the wrong forum; thus nobody answer questions posted
• One find it difficult to get somebody to visit or read their blogs or websites

To resolve the above problems, I am starting a blog for QA exchange. I had posted the Rules and How this works at Solutions Repository (http://solutions-repos.blogspot.com).

Although this may looks like a meme but this project is different from meme where anybody can post questions and anybody can answer questions posted. Thus, there is no need to tag somebody who might not be interested at all. Only those interested will be participating in QA Exchange! Besides, preferably only unique questions (can still have different version if necessary) will be posted and questions are moderated and stored at Solutions Repository for those seeking answers or solutions.

Below are some of the benefits of having QA exchange:

• You can get a lot of answers (by different bloggers / websites owners) to your question
  
• Answer comes to you instead of you having to search for it
• Those that don't ask question can still get answers to questions posted by somebody
  
• Those participate in Questions or Answers (QA Exchange) can get a lot of good link exchanges because of related topics
• Your blog got publicized and thus can get a lot of good traffics from interested readers
  
• Questions can suggest more interesting topics for blogs / websites
• Different answers can promote more interesting interactions among bloggers

The Wisdom of Asking Questions

Sometimes questions are more important than answers.

One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.

The Way You Speak

Once an old wise man sat meditating under a tree. He was blind. A man came up and said: "Hey! old man, did you hear anyone passing this way?" The wise man replied, "No, my good man, I did not hear anyone."

After a while another man went up to the old wise man and asked, "Old man, did you hear anyone going this way?" The wise man replied, "Oh yes, a man went by just now and he asked the same question." The man went away.

After some time another man came and asked, "Noble sir, did you hear anyone passing this way?" The old wise man replied, "Yes, Your Majesty. A soldier went first and then your Chief Minister. Both of them asked the same question." The man was surprised and asked, "Good sir, how do you know that I am a King and that the other two were a soldier and a Chief Minister?"

The wise man answered, "Your Majesty, I knew them by their manner of speaking. The first man spoke very rudely. The second man was a little more polite, but Your Majesty was the most polite."

The King went away astonished at the wise man's astuteness.

Growing Old Gracefully

Like a tree, we each must find a place to grow and branch out.

Growth comes from attempting tasks more difficult than our usual ones. Routine tasks are necessary, but they don't develop growth.

No one stops growing until he stops asking questions, either of others or of himself.

We never grow old. We get old when we stop growing. Keeping useful keeps us youthful.

Never regret growing old; not everyone has that privilege.

Think and Grow Rich

The average person could increase his income 20% by increasing his thinking 1%. One percent of your day is 14 minutes. Is that too much time to spend to increase your income 20%? Every day ask yourself: What one thing can I do today to increase my income? Asking yourself a question impels you to think to find the answer.

With every rising of the sun, think of your life as just begun. A strong conviction spurs the mind to think up ways to get the thing done.

No matter how hard times are some are getting rich. Think. Why?

Focus to get the result

What you consistently focus on in your life, you will achieve.

The most powerful way to direct your focus is through the questions you ask.

It is by questioning our limitations that our greatest strengths are unveiled.

Developing your plan for your life is nothing more than the process of asking and answering some specific questions

• What it is that I want from my life?
• What life's about?
• Who I am committed to becoming in the process?

Be Decisive

You don't have to wait for permission to do the right thing. Be decisive. Take the initiative. Get the facts. Do it now.

Indecision is often worse than wrong action. Indecision is fatal. It is better to make a wrong decision than build up a habit of indecision. Indecision breeds doubt. We never feel safe with a leader not sure of himself.

The most common source of mistakes in management decisions is the emphasis on finding the right answer rather than the right question.

Children are naturally curious. They believe parents and teachers know a lot about the world. Asking questions and listening to answers are vital to their learning. You know children are growing up when they start asking questions that have answers.
